December was a whirlwind but we enjoyed every minute! We loved the holidays before, but they are even better with a baby! Reagan loved looking at all of the lights, the extra decorations around the house, watching the snow fall, and even the extra activity.
She continues to amaze us with her new tricks and adorable personality. She is now sitting for long stretches and has great hand-eye coordination. She can reach for her toys and hold onto them, and also has mastered grabbing her pacifier and putting it into her mouth. It is really neat to watch her start to figure things out.
She is also very expressive with her talking and likes to “sing” (which is a nice way for saying she’s babbling at a high pitch). Her hair continues to lighten and unfortunately still fall out. She has done so well with the rice cereal that we also recently added oatmeal and she seems to really like that as well. I give it to her once a day when I get home from work, but might try adding another feeding earlier in the day as well.
She has developed a pretty consistent nap schedule, with one short nap in the morning, a longer nap around lunchtime, and then another short nap mid-afternoon. And she continues to sleep very well at night, going down around 7 and sleeping until anywhere from 6:30 to 7:30 the next morning. She often wakes up once or twice during the night, but I just go in and give her the pacifier and she usually goes right back to sleep. We know that we are very lucky.
Since the weather cooperated, we took Reagan with us to cut down our Christmas tree in early December. When we arrived at the tree farm – my Dad and Sue were ironically there as well! So that was a great surprise. We all boarded the tractor and rode back into the woods. Reagan loved being outdoors and even fell asleep as we waited to ride back. It was a very fun day. She also had her first visit with Santa at Dave’s office holiday party and she was quite enthralled, especially with his beard! She grabbed right on (it was a real beard) and her fingers became entangled in it, but she didn’t cry! We also attended a few birthday parties where she got to see her friends and family - and I got to dress her up in cute Christmas dresses!
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were wonderful. She was introduced to the many traditions we’re already instituted and more to come I’m sure! She was able to spend time with all of the family, and especially enjoyed seeing Uncle Kevin who she hadn’t seen since she was born and Aunt Blair who she hadn’t seen since August! We had Christmas Eve dinner at my mom and Dennis’s, spent the night back home, went to Dave’s parents for Christmas dinner, and then spent Christmas night at my Dad and Sue’s. It was hectic but very fun and a very memorable first Christmas!
